A Brief History of Windcraft |
||
More than 40 years ago, Jack Dawkes, at the time a professional musician, adjusted his own instruments and was always being asked to look at colleagues’ instruments. So he decided to set up a workshop in his garage with his son Lindsay. As time went on, their repair customers asked if they could supply new instruments, which they did. The business grew to the point that the garage was no longer sufficient for their needs, so they took on the premises in Uxbridge, opposite the RAF barracks. Due to the repair side of the business, Jack and Lindsay built up large stocks of repair materials and spare parts which was the foundation of what is now Windcraft Ltd. After a period of 10 years or so, they had grown beyond the Uxbridge premises so took a big step and moved to Taplow. Windcraft Ltd was officially formed and ran from the flat above the shop, selling Repair Materials, Spare Parts and Trade Accessories to the Music industry. Due to planning restrictions, it was necessary to relocate Windcraft to an alternative site in a large Warehouse by the River Thames near Maidenhead. |

This arrangement worked well for a number of years until it was decided to re-integrate both Windcraft and Dawkes Music in our current home in Reform Road, Maidenhead. The size of the new premises meant that both companies could be on one site, maximising the use of staff, computers, phones and, most importantly, our extensive range of stock. Dawkes Music Ltd now deals with all Retail instrument and accessory sales through the shop (and instrument mail order) with Windcraft looking after all the repair materials, spare parts and Trade and Retail accessories by mail order. |
